What Can Porcelain Veneers Fix?
Porcelain veneers are thin, durable shells made from high-quality ceramic that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They can correct:
- Permanent stains or discoloration
- Mildly worn, chipped, or fractured teeth
- Slight misalignment or irregular tooth shapes
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth that are uneven in length
Why Choose Porcelain Veneers?
Today’s veneers are ultra-thin and custom-made using advanced imaging technology. Porcelain veneers offer several benefits:
- Natural Appearance – Porcelain mimics natural tooth enamel, making your veneers indistinguishable from your real teeth.
- Stain Resistance – Porcelain resists staining from coffee, tea, wine, and smoking better than natural teeth.
- Minimal Tooth Alteration – Veneers require very little enamel removal compared to crowns, preserving the structure of your tooth.
- Biocompatible – Porcelain is typically well-tolerated by gums, minimizing the risk of irritation or allergic reactions.
Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?
Veneers are a great cosmetic solution for many patients, but they aren’t right for everyone. Good candidates generally:
- Have healthy teeth and gums
- Have enough enamel for the veneers to bond properly
- Are looking for a permanent cosmetic solution
- Understand that veneers typically need to be replaced every 5–10 years
Because a small amount of enamel is removed, veneers are not reversible. It’s also important to follow good dental habits—avoiding chewing on hard objects like ice or pens and wearing a bite guard if you clench or grind your teeth.
What to Expect During the Porcelain Veneer Process
At Brimhall Family Dentistry, we make sure your veneers are uniquely designed to match your features and enhance your smile naturally. We use advanced computer imaging to preview your results before treatment begins.
The porcelain veneer process typically involves three appointments:
1. Consultation & Smile Design
We’ll analyze your smile using digital images and impressions. Together, we’ll review your goals, and you’ll be able to see a preview of your potential results.
2. Tooth Preparation
At your next visit, we’ll carefully prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel (about 0.5 millimeters). This ensures the veneers fit seamlessly. We’ll take impressions, which are sent to a lab where your custom veneers are crafted. If needed, we can place temporary veneers until your final ones are ready (typically in 1-2 weeks).
3. Veneer Placement
Once your veneers are ready, we’ll place them temporarily to check for fit, color, and comfort. Adjustments can be made on the spot. After confirming the perfect look and fit, your teeth are cleaned and prepped for bonding. We’ll then secure the veneers using a special dental cement and curing light.
A follow-up visit may be scheduled to make sure everything feels and functions exactly as it should.
